So what sparked Healthmates?
Realizing that our healthcare system cannot treat chronic conditions effectively.
Americans spend more on healthcare than residents of any other developed nation by a lot, yet we have more people suffering from mental health disorders, obesity related illnesses and addictions. The prevalence of behavior-based chronic conditions continues to rise despite the efforts of our healthcare industry. Annual check-ups, prescribed pharmaceutical medications, and staggeringly expensive hospital visits do not keep us healthy, they just prevent us from dying.
The underlying problem is the way our society thinks about healthcare. Under the generally accepted theory of healthcare, a person is either sick or healthy - there is no middle ground. Anxiety, diabetes, anorexia, depression and obesity are just a few examples of conditions that prove that a middle ground exists. Individuals with these illnesses require medical help: they are certainly not healthy, but also not sick enough to warrant constant hospitalization.
Going to the doctor cannot resolve these illnesses, they are generally trained to treat acute diseases instead of chronic ones. Individuals can only effectively reverse their chronic conditions by consistently making the right choices; and consistently making right choices in our modern age is difficult.
So we created Healthmates
A lifestyle app that guides you to make the right choices.
A way to actually solve your problems instead of coping with them.
A tool that empowers you to change your behavior through habit replacement.
"You either get bitter or you get better. It's that simple. You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you"
- Josh Shipp
